Can a dental blog help you market to existing patients?
A dentist, Arthur, asked me recently the following question (paraphrased):
I have a list of patients now. Is that appropriate for blog marketing? Or should I start building my list from the ground up?
Good questions, Arthur, so let me try to answer.
Internal marketing is promoting to existing dental patients and there is nothing better. The best people to help you get more cases are your existing patients, no doubt. So I would use a dental practice marketing blog to do that.
The blog I create for you in my dental blogsite program goes on a separate site. Like http://www.CrownsBridgesVeneers.com.
And yes, you can use the blog to promote to your patients.
There are many ways to do this. First let's talk about why a blog is a good promotion tool.
Blogs that you post to create news. Each new post is new. A website, on the other hand, is basically static so there is nothing new on a website except very occasionally. And websites aren't designed to show you what is new when you go to them.
A blog is designed for news. It's designed to show you what has been recently added.
So here is how you use a blog to promote to your existing patients.
You create new posts that would interest your patients. Then you summarize the posts and email your patients with an email that contains a brief summary of the blog post and a link to go there. They can decide to visit it or not. Since the email is real quick and to the point, they don't mind getting it.
How to promote your dental blog to existing dental patients
Here is an example:
Dear Jane, people ask me about porcelain veneers all the time. Can veneers be removed if you change your mind later? And what do they cost? There's no connection with Mandy Moore and my dental veneers but I have blogged about both here:

yours,
Dr. Scott Gore
That's how I would promote to your patients.
And if you want to, you can produce really cheap and effective videos. You can post these quite easily to the blog I set up for you. Get the $150 Flip Video and post them on YouTube and embed them into your blog. It's real easy.
Write your own articles if you want. Post them on the blog. Really easy to do.
Or do nothing and let me do all the work.
I start building your list from the ground up because my purpose is to get you new business, new patients, but there is no finer tool than using the dental marketing blog for existing patients. But yes, let your dental blog help you market to existing patients.
