Can dental blogs attract Boomers with money?

I had a very interesting email from a dentist I will call "Jane." Jane writes:

Innovations you describing target mostly generation Y and W, who are sophisticated with the web……….How do you sell big cases to babybomers, who control most of the money today.

Hey, it's a great point. You know how kids listen to podcasts, and use Facebook, and use words that I don't understand like "werd" or something?

Anyhow, I have a 17 year old daughter and an 18 year old son and that's my impression. Actually, I listen to podcasts, and use Facebook and two out of three isn't bad for someone who is already pushing 48, no?

So if I am promoting your blog on social media sites, won't this serve to catch a market we really aren't all that interested in? The iPod-carrying, podcast-listening, weird-word-using, Gen Y and Gen W (first time I've heard of that name) types?

So that's the million dollar question and now let me answer it. My answer will seem a bit roundabout. But it will tie back into the question in just a moment.

Dental marketing blogs, as I have explained work this way:

  1. Post many times each month
  2. Ping around 40 different search engines and directories when you post
  3. Promote the posts on social media sites
  4. Build a list from dental patient prospects who visit the blogsite
  5. Email those people (you have their permission)

Yesterday I posted about George Clooney and how he tried out for professional baseball. That sort of thing keeps people interested and we always tie it back into dentistry. Keep two things in mind:

  1. Making posts interesting is very important or nobody will want to read your posts.
  2. You can't promote boring posts or overtly promotional posts on other sites.

You can't promote posts that say "visit me I'm a great dentist" because that is considered spam. can dental blogs attract Boomers with money

When I post on the blog I will then promote some of these dental practice marketing posts on social media sites — and since the posts are interesting and not just about "boring" dentistry, and since they are not overtly promotional, people enjoy hearing about them.

And that builds two things — traffic and valuable high authority backlinks. These type of dental marketing backlinks are the key to high rankings on Google.

So yes, we will drive direct traffic from social media sites. And that traffic may be skewed to a younger less affluent demographic.

Lots of folks our age use Facebook and LinkedIn and watch videos on YouTube and these are all social media sites. And some of them will visit your dental marketing blog.

But the real magic in this is that we create high authority backlinks that increase you rankings on Google over time. And the backlinks will in the end bring in all types of people including the affluent Boomers who want elective dentistry and can pay for it.
